On August 20th, the 9th Summer Program for Innovative Engineering Design (SPIED) was held at Jiangsu University. More than 60 teachers and students from 6 universities, including Yamaguchi University from Japan, National Gunsan University, Chungbuk National University, and Inje University from South Korea, participated in the opening ceremony online. Prof. Yan Xiaohong, President of JSU and related personnel from the Engineering Training Center and School of Computer Science and Communications Engineering attended the venue activities. The opening ceremony was presided by Prof. Pan Jianfeng, Director of the International Office of JSU.

Prof. Yan Xiaohong warmly welcomed teachers and students from Japanese and Korean universities to participate in the SPIED in the opening speech, and briefly introduced JSU's history, international cooperation and exchanges with Japanese and Korean universities, and international education achievements. Prof. Yan Xiaohong said that the construction of a high-level international teaching platform and team has played an important role in the JSU's "new engineering" education reform and the cultivation of innovative engineering talents. JSU will rely on the advantages of engineering to escort the project.

Prof. Masaro Oka, President of Yamaguchi University, Japan, and Prof. Minhyun Jun, President of Inje University, South Korea, delivered speeches, placing high hopes on the development of SPIED.

The SPIED lasted for one week. An English teaching team composed of 14 Chinese and foreign professors led 10 international cooperation teams composed of 58 Chinese, Japanese, and Korean students to train their innovative thinking ability through brainstorming, independently conceive ideas, put forward design contents and determine design schemes around the theme of "smart life with COVID-19". The JSU students completed the production of innovative works offline, and finally organized online works defense and appraisal.

SPIED provides the wonderful experience for senior college students and Master’s courses students from China, Japan, Korea and other Asian countries. This program is mainly intended for the students having engineering knowledge in Mechanical, Electronic, Information Technology fields. In order to aim the practical innovation education, the students from other fields, such as Industrial design, Economics, Human Science, Nursing, and etc. are sincerely welcome to attend. Students from different countries and different fields gather in one place and cross their knowledge and experiences with other participants to learn how to create new ideas and products through international team activities.
