School of Mathematical Sciences in Jiangsu University consists of Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, Department of Financial Mathematics, Department of Information and Computing Science and Department of College Mathematics. The school has more than 100 faculty members, including one distinguished academician, 10 doctoral supervisors, 45 master supervisors. 59 of faculty members have title of professors or associate professors. At present, the school has nearly 700 undergraduates and 170 postgraduates, including 9 overseas PhD students and 3 overseas master students.
School of Mathematical Science sets up many academic institutes or research centers, including Institute for Applied Systems Analysis, Energy Development and Environmental Protection Strategy Research Center, Nonlinear Science Research Center, Energy and Systems Engineering Research Center, Institute of Fundamental Mathematics, Institute of Probability and Financial Mathematics, Institute of Modeling and Control and so on. The school has a center for post-doctoral studies in Control Science and Engineering, 1 PhD program in Control Science and Engineering, 3 master programs in the fields of Mathematics, Control Science and Engineering and Statistics. The Control Science and Engineering is a provincial key first-level discipline.
School of Mathematical Science offers 4 undergraduate programs: Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, Mathematics and Applied Mathematics (Normal), Mathematics and Applied Mathematics (Sino-foreign cooperative education) and Financial Mathematics. In 2011, the school launched a Sino-foreign cooperative program in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics by working with Arcadia University in US. 10 students will go to study in foreign schools every year. In the past two years, more than 30 students received the postgraduate offers from top universities, such as UC Berkeley, Columbia University and so on.
The school have many excellent faculty members. They have won the titles such as National Outstanding Teacher, National Millions of Talents Project Talent, National Excellent Youth Backbone Teacher, Provincial Distinguished Young Scholars, Provincial Outstanding Young Scholars, Provincial “333”  Project Talent, Provincial ”Qinglan Project” Academic Leader and Outstanding Backbone Teacher, Provincial Six talent peaks and high-level talents, Provincial Outstanding Educators, Chinese Academy of Sciences President Prize and Zhong Jiaqing Maths Prize. More than 20 domestic and overseas famous experts are appointed as par-time professor. At present, there are 12 foreign postdoctoral fellows.
Great achievements have also been made in teaching and academic research, such as 1 first prized and 1 second prize in Jiangsu Province Teaching Achievements Demonstration. Many students have been awarded first prizes at international, state-level and provincial level competitions, such as Advanced Mathematics Competition, Mathematical Modeling Competition and Skills Competition for Normal University students. In the past five years, faculty members have published more than 400 research papers indexed by SCI and EI. Besides, the school has undertaken over 34 research projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation and more than 15 projects funded by Jiangsu Province. A large number of excellent results have been published on international top journals, including PNAS, Advances in Mathematics, CPDE, SIAM Journal on Optimization, IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, Acta Arithmetica and Journal of Algebra.
The past 5 years has witnessed the graduation of 272 postgraduates and nearly 800 undergraduates. 3 graduation dissertations have been awarded Provincial Excellent Postgraduate Dissertation, and 13 projects have been listed as Provincial Postgraduate Innovation Program. More than 230 graduates have been awarded Jiangsu University Excellent Graduates. Its employment rate hits a record high at 98%. The direction of employment mainly includes the fields of teacher education, finance, computer network, computer software and so on.
