At 9 a.m. on July 9, the 2021 "Famous Teachers' Lecture Hall" co-sponsored by the School of Mathematical Sciences and the Institute of Applied System Analysis of Jiangsu University opened on the cloud as scheduled. The guest speakers invited in this issue are Professor Zhiwu Lin from Georgia Institute of Technology and Professor Junping Shi from the College of William and Mary in the United States. More than 100 teachers and students attended the lecture, including Professor Renhao Cui from Harbin Normal University, Professor Jiabao Su and Associate Professor Rushun Tian from Capital Normal University, Associate Professor Chao Ji from East China University of Science and Technology, Associate Professor Rong Cheng from Nanjing University of Information Technology, Associate Professor Qing Guo from Central University for Nationalities, Professor Leiga Zhao from Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Professor Zhitao Zhang and Associate Professor Pingzheng Zhang from Jiangsu University.

Dean Zhang Zhitao briefly introduced Professor Lin Zhiwu and Professor Shi Junping respectively, and presided over this lecture.

Professor Zhiwu Lin gave the first academic report on "Stability of some stellar models". He first started from the path of stellar evolution in astrophysics and abstracted a mathematical framework-the Euler Poisson system. Subsequently, they introduced one of their research results on the stability of non-rotating stars, the "inflection point principle", that is, the stability will change when passing through the point of maximum mass, and a strict mathematical proof was given. Furthermore, Professor Lin also introduced a new research result on the stability of rotating stars—stability criterion and related mathematical proofs.

Professor Junping Shi gave the second academic report on the topic of “Modeling animal movement with memory with partial differential equations with time delay”. Professor Shi first summarized a variety of motion laws from the observation process of animal motion, and introduced some commonly used mathematical models for studying animal motion, such as diffusion model, Keller-Segel chemotaxis model and predator model. In the report, he introduced the latest research results and related stability analysis on the Keller-Segel chemotactic model.

Through their respective reports, the two professors respectively demonstrated the profound connection between mathematical variational theory, astrophysics and biological mathematics, and demonstrated their profound mathematical skills. The reports of the two professors aroused great interest among the teachers and students present. After the report, they had a warm and sincere interaction with the teachers and students present, and gave patient and detailed answers to the questions raised by everyone, which benefited the teachers and students present. Finally, Dean Zhitao Zhang made a concluding speech for the lecture.

The “Lecture Hall of Famous Teachers” brand activity established by our school aims to regularly invite well-known experts, academic authorities, and outstanding young scholars in the subject field to give lectures. Continuously improve the mathematical literacy and scientific research and innovation capabilities of graduate students, strengthen exchanges and cooperation between scholars, and further enhance the academic influence of the subject.
