From June 10 to 12, the International Conference on Variational Methods and Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations was held online. The conference was jointly hosted by the School of Mathematical Sciences of Jiangsu University and the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science (AMSS) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

More than 300 experts, scholars, and graduate students from China, the United States, Canada, Australia, and so on attended the meeting, including academician Song Jiang, the director of the Department of Mathematics and Physics of the National Natural Science Foundation of China; academician Ping Zhang from Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; academician Yihong Du from the Australian Academy of Sciences; and academician Juncheng Wei from the Royal Canadian Academy of Sciences.

The president, Xiaohong Yan, made a speech at the opening ceremony and introduced the development of the Jiangsu University and the construction of the School of Mathematical Sciences. Song Jiang introduced the theme and content of the conference combining the development of nonlinear functional analysis in China. He believed that variational methods and nonlinear partial differential equations are the current research hotspots, and affirmed the work of Jiangsu University in the construction of mathematics discipline.

During the three-day conference, 22 experts from Tsinghua University, Peking University, the University of Science and Technology of China, Rutgers University, the University of Texas at San Antonio, and other domestic and foreign universities gave some presentations, focusing on the topics of variational methods, elliptic equations, parabolic equations, other non-linear partial differential equations, dynamical systems, biomathematics, and mathematical modeling. They shared and discussed the latest research results and academic development trends.

The conference provided a platform for learning, sharing, and cooperation for young talents and graduate students from the field of variational methods and nonlinear partial differential equations at home and abroad. It further promoted the development and achievements in nonlinear scientific fields. It was conducive to strengthening the construction of mathematical disciplines in Jiangsu University and improve the level of theoretical innovation. (School of Mathematical Sciences)
